Sermon

In the Christian calendar, we are at that point where Jesus is making appearances to his disciples, with a range of responses from them. Sometimes they believed it was him, at other times, they didn't believe. Sometimes they were alarmed and frightened at his appearance, at other times they were just perplexed. In any event, Jesus seemed determined to demonstrate to them that he really had risen from the dead and was about to ascend to his Father from whom he came.

Every Christian needs to embrace a mental image of Jesus, the Incarnate Son of God, as someone who looks like them. I am convinced that this is particularly true for Black people like myself, who have undergone centuries of mental conditioning of seeing Jesus portrayed as a White European, with only the devil and his imps as Black.
