Prime Minister Gordon Brown's brazen 'No' to the question, 'did you plan to move the chancellor?' when the world knows he did has done for me and party politics what Mike Tyson's biting off Evander Holyfield's ear did for me and boxing. The main problem with Gordon Brown, and the reason he may be forced to step aside next Monday or Tuesday, is, in a word 'legitimacy'. He lacks it as Prime Minister in a way he never lacked it as Chancellor, a job to which he was properly appointed.
